Carver Creations Lipbalm- Review and Giveaway

The Balm!

Have I got a treat for you today! A few weeks ago a friend of mine from Wichita, Rebekah from Carver Creations, sent me a few of her homemade lipbalms for review. I was excited, because having had experience with many of her creations before I knew I’d love them. I was right. I’ve had a lot of chapped lips in my life, therefore I have used a LOT of chapsticks and lipbalms and can be a bit of a chapstick snob. It needs to be not too soft, and definitely not too hard. It should be extremely effective and soothing. My husband wants it to not goop up my lips (like my homemade stuff does!) else he will complain every time he kisses me. So, I guess I don’t want it to either. Bonus points for being all natural. One more thing. It should be fun. Boring chapstick, is well, boring and I forget to use it. Then my lips look like dessert ground. Not good. If it has a fun scent I am much better at using it.

Rebekah sent me a Natural Peppermint, and a Pink Peppermint. They met all my chapstick requirements and then some. I can even kiss my husband right after putting it on, without him complaining. Not many chapsticks have that benefit and actually work. It’s hard for me to say which I preferred. The stickler in me says the all natural one since I do not particularly care for dye and glitter in my body products, but yes, the pink glittery one excited the little girl in me.

I really do love her chapstick. It is quality, it is soothing, and it is made by a WAHM. What more could I want?

The ingredients in the Natural Peppermint are:

Beeswax, Castor Oil, Soybean Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Apricot Kernel Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Carnauba Wax, Lanolin, Peppermint Oil, Vitamin E, and Glycerin

Here are some of the highlights about the ingredients, at least the ones I am aware of (I know Rebekah does a lot of research and really takes quality seriously, so I’m sure she knows a lot more about it then I do)

I love that it is scented and flavored with peppermint oil, instead of “natural” flavoring or scent. That is probably the biggest reason I recommend these.

Vitamin E oil helps protect your lips from the sun during the day since your lips do not have the protective pigment melanin.
Lanolin is a wax that comes from sheeps wool. It is all natural moisturizer that is very effective because it is similar to our skins oil. Our skin willingly absorbs it. Also, since it can hold 2 times it’s weight in water, it is very effective way of protecting lips, and skin.
The Carnauba wax helps give the chapstick a firmer texture hard to get with homemade chapstick. I guess it is that I can thank for being able to kiss my husband freely. Rebekah told me that, I didn’t know. :D
Castor Oil is a gentle moisturizer that helps keep moisture near your skin. It also helps give lipbalms a nice shine.
According to Health Apricot Oil:

Rich in essential fatty acids like oleic and linoleic acid, apricot kernel oil is high in vitamin A. Since it easily penetrates the skin, it is good oil for prematurely aged, dry or irritated skin. The excellent softening and moisturizing properties is great for face, hands and hair. Vitamins A & C are good for mature dry or sensitive skin. The apricot kernel oil helps skin retain elasticity, clarity, and suppleness. (source)
