Have I got a treat for you today! A few weeks ago a friend of mine from Wichita, Rebekah from Carver Creations, sent me a few of her homemade lipbalms for review. I was excited, because having had experience with many of her creations before I knew I’d love them. I was right. I’ve had a lot of chapped lips in my life, therefore I have used a LOT of chapsticks and lipbalms and can be a bit of a chapstick snob. It needs to be not too soft, and definitely not too hard. It should be extremely effective and soothing. My husband wants it to not goop up my lips (like my homemade stuff does!) else he will complain every time he kisses me. So, I guess I don’t want it to either. Bonus points for being all natural. One more thing. It should be fun. Boring chapstick, is well, boring and I forget to use it. Then my lips look like dessert ground. Not good. If it has a fun scent I am much better at using it.
I really do love her chapstick. It is quality, it is soothing, and it is made by a WAHM. What more could I want?
Beeswax, Castor Oil, Soybean Oil, Olive Oil, Shea Butter, Apricot Kernel Oil, Cotton Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Coconut Oil, Carnauba Wax, Lanolin, Peppermint Oil, Vitamin E, and Glycerin
Here are some of the highlights about the ingredients, at least the ones I am aware of (I know Rebekah does a lot of research and really takes quality seriously, so I’m sure she knows a lot more about it then I do):
I love that it is scented and flavored with peppermint oil, instead of “natural” flavoring or scent. That is probably the biggest reason I recommend these.
Rich in essential fatty acids like oleic and linoleic acid, apricot kernel oil is high in vitamin A. Since it easily penetrates the skin, it is good oil for prematurely aged, dry or irritated skin. The excellent softening and moisturizing properties is great for face, hands and hair. Vitamins A & C are good for mature dry or sensitive skin. The apricot kernel oil helps skin retain elasticity, clarity, and suppleness. (source)
Rebekah Carver is the WAHM (work at home mom) behind Carver Creations. She is extremely creative and makes adorable custom woolies (for cloth diapering), cute dryer balls, extremely fun and unique lye soaps with a great lather, wonderful lip balms ect. ect. I love seeing the new woolies and cosmetics she makes as she puts them on her facebook page. Knowing her personally, I have seen the care and attention she puts into all she makes. It’s a beautiful thing to see.
