What is The Veggie Book?

The Veggie Book is a comprehensive book all about VEGETABLES! Did you guess that?

Four moms (Sara from Your Thriving Family, Danielle from More Than Four Walls, Kayla from Renown and Crowned  [developing editor] and me) have come together to give nutritional information, how to select the best quality, how to store it to maximize freshness, and common ways to serve vegetables. And most of all make them tasty!

We hope that we can encourage, inspire, and direct moms who want to give their family vegetables their whole family will enjoy.

For our first volume of The Veggie Book, we have chosen just 11 of our favorite veggies (and fruits, in botanical terms):

  • Asparagus
  • Avocado
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Leafy Greens
  • Green Beans
  • Tomatoes
  • Peas
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Zucchini

Each section includes basic nutritional info, how to select, basic prep and cooking information, common uses, and storage of each vegetable and then is followed by a handful of recipes featuring that vegetable. There are over 150 pages of vegetable information and delicious recipes in this book!

Recipes

There are 52 recipes in The Veggie Book. That means you could try a new recipe each week for a full year! In addition to being tested by the authors, and their families, we sent out the recipes to other bloggers, moms, dads, and singles to see if they liked them too.

At the bottom of this page you can see the full list of recipes.

 Reviews

The Veggie Book is a cookbook that I have been looking forward to reading for weeks now. Like many, I often find myself stuck in the same rotation when serving veggies: steamed broccoli, roasted brussel sprouts, and raw veggies with homemade ranch dip are the ones we see at our house over and over and over. The Veggie Book is changing that! The book is divided by vegetable, with nutrition, selection, storage, preparation and ways to commonly serve, followed by a handful of creative recipes for each vegetable. Some of my favorite recipes include: Chinese Chicken Salad, Spice It Up Carrot Fries, Chicken Pot Pie Soup, and Apple, Fennel, and Spinach Salad. This book is one I will be referencing on a weekly basis to spice up the vegetable selections in our house!

“Do you wish your family ate more veggies? Did you grow up with boring canned veggies and have no idea how to serve them so they taste good? Dive into this book and you will learn! The authors feature 10 different vegetables with nutrition information and a few recipes for each. They also include gorgeous photographs that will inspire you to eat the veggies immediately, and a general guide to cooking, buying, and storing them. This is the most comprehensive veggie cookbook I’ve run across from real food bloggers. Buy it and start enjoying your veggies!”

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed taste-testing several of the recipes and look forward to giving even more of them a try. Thanks for such a comprehensive guide to getting more veggies on our plate!”

“The Veggie Book is a very unique book with some helpful tips on getting your family to eat and enjoy their veggies. Even experienced real foodies like myself can get into a veggie rut before and run out of ideas about how to make them more exciting and different. This book has a variety of different recipes so there is certainly something for everyone. I am really looking forward to cooking my way through this book!”

-Roxanne King, The Holistic Mama

“I’m a big time veggie lover, so when I opened The Veggie Book I was surprised to discover things I’d never known before about some of my favorite vegetables. In fact, I couldn’t stop paging through this valuable read. I learned so much! There’s a recipe for making your own vegetable spray, making homemade broth or stock, and you know those stickers you see on your produce? This book explains what those mean so you can shop for the healthiest, most natural foods. The authors have even gone to the extent of writing a section for each common vegetable explaining it’s nutritional value, how to select and store the veggie, how to prepare it and ways that it’s commonly served PLUS a few different recipes to try. This book is definitely a kitchen resource I’ll have on hand going forward.”
